The future shows reason for optimism
"Tata" Martino's most recent call-up sheds light on a promising future
This is a going to be a short write-up. I don’t want to get too much into the details and stats.
There’s plenty of reason to feel excited about this call-up. It’s the youngest senior team call-up that we’ve seen in a long time. I think the last time we had a call-up this young was when Chucho Ramírez took over the national team in an interim basis and called-up a lot of the players that won the 2005 U-17 World Cup.
To get Marcelo Flores and Jonathan Gómez to make the trip for this non-FIFA friendly is a big win for Martino and his coaching staff.
Not going to lie, I wasn’t a fan to get Flores to make the trip considering he has been training with Arsenal’s first-team in recent weeks, but let’s hope that these next days play a vital role in Flores’ World Cup hopes.
In my opinion, even before the ball starts rolling at Exploria Stadium, Flores has a great shot to make Martino’s final World Cup roster.
I like the Pachuca presence in this call-up because it makes sense to have a significant number of players from Liga MXs top of the table team.
Even though “Palermo” Ortíz won’t be available in that first-leg of the Concachampions final against Seattle, he’ll have a prize after all as he will likely be making his senior national team debut.
Here’s the thing. Martino pretty much has his World Cup roster set up, but there will be certain variables to keep in mind as the final date to submit rosters comes our way.
Injuries and in-form/out-of-form players are maybe the main two that could shake up the list Martino has in mind.
Overall, this roster leaves me with the feeling that the future is in good hands. There’s going to be highs and lows, but this generation looks promising. It’s the World Cup year, and it’s great to start it with a reminder that the generation that’s coming up has a lot of talent.
Have a nice weekend, raza!
